World Population day

World Population day

World Population Day is observed annually on July 11th to raise awareness about global population issues. Established by the United Nations Development Programme in 1989, this day highlights the urgency and importance of population-related matters, including family planning, gender equality, poverty, maternal health, and human rights.

History and Significance: The idea for World Population Day was inspired by the public interest in Five Billion Day on July 11, 1987, the approximate date when the world's population reached five billion. Recognizing the need to focus attention on the implications of population growth, the United Nations General Assembly decided to mark this day as an annual event.
